Brief Description:
St James Church is a Grade II Listed Building which was built in 1862. It is thought to be the third church built on what was originally the site of a medieval priory built in 1132. The church became redundant in 1990 and is now maintained by the Yorkshire Wolds Heritage Centre. Inside the church is a monument to Lady Isabel Wilson (daughter of the 7th Duke of Roxburghe) who died during childbirth in 1905. There are also two stained glass lunette windows in the nave of the church which depict the death of Lady Isabel and her baby. There is a variety of information about the history and heritage of the Yorkshire Wolds within the church.
