Accessibility:

There is no wheelchair access to the upper floor in the museum, however resources such as books and puppets can be brought down from the Victorian storytelling area. Assistance dogs are welcome. Braille and alphabet blocks are available in the Victorian storytelling area. There are baby changing facilities and accessible toilets on site. There are a limited number of pay and display bays within walking distance of the museum, and wide kerb'd walkways.


Brief Description:

Hands on History museum opened to the public in 1988, designed as a curriculum resource centre for schools. It was formally known as The Old Grammar School, tracing back to 1347. It is a listed Tudor style building, with original brick work and mullioned windows. There is a hands on interactive exhibition, with Victorian school room, local history and displays about Hull and It's people. As well as displays on Ancient Egypt, including the mummy of and ancient Egyptian priest.

Directions:

Situated 5.3 miles E of Hessle. Head E on Hull Road, then continue onto Hessle Road. At roundabout take 3rd exit onto Priory Way. Turn left to merge onto Clive Sullivan Way/A63. In approximately 3.7 miles turn left onto Market Place and take the first left onto South Church Side. The museum will be on your left hand side, in the second half of the street.

Buses run in and around the area, with the closest stop situated on Alfred Geldor Street. There are limited pay and display parking bays close to the museum. Closest multi-storey car park is on Osbourne Street.
