Accessibility:

There is level access from the public footpath into the Church grounds and from there level access into the church.  Once inside the church, level access is provided to the north and south naves and to the toilet and fire exits.

In the northern section of the Church, there is a single step between the nave and chancel, there is another single step from the chancel to the sanctuary and a further three steps up to the altar.  In the older and smaller south section of the Church, there is a single step from the nave to the chancel area and another two steps up to the altar in this part.  There is also a single step between the north nave and the south chancel area where a link between the two exists midway along the north nave.

There are reasonably level asphalted and concrete paths around the churchyard areas although these are a little uneven.  The number of paths around the churchyard is however limited and access to most graves is over relatively uneven ground - see photos.

Brief description:

An historical grade II listed Church, the oldest parts dating back to the 12th Century although it is thought a church existed on the site from around 654 when St Cedd arrived in Essex.  Many changes have been made to the Church over the years with a new much larger nave being added to the north side in 1906.  For the full fascinating history visit the Church website, details below.

The Church is located alongside the A13 (on the south side) within the Southchurch area of Southend-on-Sea which is to the east of and around 1.5 miles from the main town centre.  It is also easily accessed from the seafront area of Southend; travelling east along the main seafront road, turn north (left) up Lifstan Way (there is a small  signpost to London just before this turn) at just over a mile from Southend pier, go past Southchurch park on the left and continue under the railway bridge and up the hill to the traffic lights, turn east (right) at the traffic lights onto the dual carriageway and the Church can be seen on the right hand side a few hundred yards from the lights.  Take a U turn at one of the intersections on the dual carriageway and you can park on the road immediately outside the Church.  (See video for route from seafront.)
