Southchurch Library, Southend-on-Sea
Details
Accessibility:
There is both stepped and ramped access to the Library from the public footpath. Stepped access is via 6 steps from the public footpath and then a further 2 steps closer to the building. A ramp is provided from the public footpath to a footpath alongside the car park leading to a second ramp into the building. The footpath adjacent to the car park comprises concrete paving slabs, the public footpath being an asphalted smoother finish.
Access into and from the building itself is over reasonably level (albeit a little uneven with potential trip hazards) door thresholds. Once inside there is level access around the building and level access through the fire exit at the rear and then via a private office to a side exit. There is a small ramp down from the fire exit to the paving outside.
The single unisex toilet is also at the rear accessed through the fire door. (Note the toilet is not designed with disability in mind.)

Directions:
The Library is located close to the A13 within the Southchurch area of Southend-on-Sea which is to the east of and around 1.5 miles from the main town centre. If travelling out of central Southend along the A13 (at this point called Southchurch Road), you need to turn south (right) at traffic lights with Lifstan Way (the Old Walnut pub is on corner diagonally opposite as you approach the lights). It is the first building on the west/right side as you come into Lifstan Way. Parking is available along Lifstan Way outside the library as well as within a small car park adjacent to the Library with entry from Dalmatia Road (which is accessed off the A13, one road before the traffic lights when travelling from Southend). The Library is also easily accessed from the seafront area of Southend; travelling east along the main seafront road, turn north (left) up Lifstan Way (there is a small signpost to London just before this turn) at just over a mile from Southend pier, go past Southchurch park on the left and continue under the railway bridge and up the hill and the Library is on the west/left hand side just before the traffic lights. See here for video of journey from seafront; the library can be seen on left just before the traffic lights.
