Accessibility:

Parking for the railway is located at Elsecar Heritage centre and the railway is situated behind the centre. The site is accessible to all, however due to the historical nature of the site wheelchair access may be difficult in some areas. Train carriages do not have wheelchair accessible doors, but the guards van has accessible parcel doors. Please call ahead on 01226 746746 for advance arrangements for travel on trains.

Brief Description:

Elsecar Steam Railway was originally built to serve the Earl Fitzwilliams collieries and ironworks. After the closure of the collieries the site was closed. The site in now run by volunteers and operates on a Sunday, with a service running from Rockingham station to the Elsecar Heritage Centre.. The track runs on a one- mile route passing alongside the Dearne and Dove Canal.
