Accessibility:

2025-

We welcome people with disabilities and our volunteer staff are always happy to assist if needed – please don’t be afraid to ask!
The Museum site is step-free.
However, our trolleybuses and motorbuses are historic vehicles. Unlike modern buses they weren’t built for easy access and most are unable to take wheelchair users. In 2023 we adapted a single deck trolleybus to carry wheelchairs, using a portable lift for access; this trolleybus will be operated (subject to availability) at those events marked with a wheelchair symbol or described as “Accessible Weekend”.

For other open days we have portable steps to help boarding and our staff will give every assistance to less ambulant visitors who want to enjoy a ride and experience these magnificent vehicles.

  • Reserved parking spaces for disabled persons near to our Reception building. The surface of the car park is compounded gravel and entrance to, and exit from, Reception is step free.
  • Wheelchairs are available for visitors to use.
  • Level access to all buildings. (Please note, parts of our main depot building have uneven floors so we don’t allow any visitors in these areas.)
  • Ramped kerbs at all crossing points
  • Seating
  • A disabled persons’ toilet equipped with changing bench
  •  Assistance dogs are welcome and allowed in all areas of the Museum.

The nearest Changing Places toilet is about 5 miles away, at Epworth Leisure Centre, Burnham Road, Epworth DN9 1BX

Brief Description:

2025-

"There’s lots to do, making the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft a great family day out for all ages!

It’s not just old buses – we have a Toy Museum, a Cycle Shop Museum, a replica pre-fab home, play areas for the youngsters, a Lecture Theatre/Cinema showing videos and our Tea Trolley Cafe. We have a reputation for friendliness and good value – check out the reviews our visitors give us on Google Maps and Trip Advisor.

Founded in 1969 on part of a former wartime RAF station, to house, restore and run trolleybuses when they were fast disappearing from Britain’s streets, the Museum has grown from a handful of vehicles and now has over 50 – the largest collection of preserved trolleybuses in the world. And, having purchased additional land in recent years, we now have ambitious plans to expand our facilities and exhibitions – see our News page."
