Brief description

"St. Mary the Virgin Church" is a Grade I listed building dating from the early 14th century.  It is believed the church was originally named "St. Fremund Chapel."

Parts of the South Aisle date from 1050 and were later restored in the 14th century.

The Chancel Arch, Sanctuary, and Porch, date from this period of restoration.

The church has two stone fonts; the oldest Norman Font was restored in 1914 and the later Victorian Font dates from 1853.

The Tower, Belfrey and parapets date from the 15th - 16th centuries.

Fragments of 'old glass' showing The Virgin Mary can be seen in the stained-glass windows in the North Aisle.

The "Doom Painting" remains can be observed from the Nave.  It is believed these were painted over to hide them during the 'Puritan Times.' (16th - 17th centuries).

The Pulpit dates from 1619 with parts believed to be from the original Rood Screen.

"The Lectern dates from pre-Reformation (1517). During the English Civil Wars (1642-1651) and the Battle of Cropredy (1644), the Lectern was hidden in the nearby Cherwell River."

The Church has a collection of Replica Armour based on an original suite which was stolen and never recovered.
