Accessibility:
A long fairly steep walk to chapel. Tarmac path the majority of the way which then turns into a rough grassy path. Seven stone steps up to the chapel. Plenty of benches on the way up. Nearest toilets including disability in Island car park (seasonal opening).
Brief Description:
The chapel is situated on 'The Island' in St Ives, it gives a spectacular 360 view of St Ives and the surrounding coastline.
There is no evidence to confirm when the chapel was built, but it has been assumed that it was probably used for worship before the Church of St Ives was built in 1434. It has had many uses over the centuries, including as a place of worship, a look-out by revenue officers, then later for storage by the war office. It has been restored many times and was finally restored to it's present state in 1971.
It is opened by a group of volunteers during the summer months with a service on Thursday mornings.
