Brief Description:
Betws-y-Coed railway station is on the Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog stretch of the Conwy Valley Line. The station opened in 1868 and allowed the town of Betws-y-Coed to become a major tourist hub in the late Victorian era, attracting many artists to the area and providing an easily reachable destination in north Wales.
The station now functions as an unstaffed halt and, following a refurbishment in 2009, passenger information is now provided via a digital system as well as telephone and timetable poster boards.
Although the second platform was removed in the 1960s the bridge that joined it with the remaining platform still exists and provides a link to the railway museum. There are also a number of station buildings that have been preserved and are now used as a cafe, coffee shop, holiday apartments and retail outlets.
The railway station is also an important bus interchange for many areas throughout north Wales.
