Accessibility:

The church has two dedicated compacted gravel car parks to the south east of the church (accessed off the A5) and the north west of the church (accessed off the minor road that goes around the boundary of the church grounds). The church entrances are flat and accessible.

Brief Description:

The church dates from 1873 and replaced the old St Michael’s Church, which was not large enough to cope with the late 19th century influx of tourists.

Constructed on a cruciform plan with the tower as the crossing point, the church is built from rubble stone with sandstone dressings and slated roofs. Its architectural style is described as Transitional Norman. At the east end is a five-light window and at the west end is a rose window.

The interior boasts arcades with pointed arches, a font fashioned from black and burgundy marble and a sandstone pulpit.

The stained glass was largely created by Shrigley and Hunt of Lancaster with others made by Jones and Willis from Edward Burne-Jones designs.
