Accessibility:

The sanctuary is wheelchair friendly but the otter enclosure fences are too high for wheelchair viewing. Sanctuary keepers are available to assist wheelchair users access the best viewing points. Free parking is available on site.

Brief Description:

A combined butterfly and otter sanctuary with associated educational information. The butterfly sanctuary has a regulated rainforest artificial habitat and home to several species of tropical butterflies. The otter sanctuary has three species of otter including the native British otter, Asian and North American otters.

Directions:

Travelling south on the Devon Expressway take the exit for Lower Dean. At the junction turn north onto Plymouth Road B3380. Continue north across the junction of Timbers Road which merges with Strode Road. After passing the petrol station on the north side of the road, take the next turn south east sign posted for the South Devon Railway. Follow the road under the bridge and into the station. Continue through the station and under the bridge following the sign for ‘Dartmoor Otters and Buckfast Butterflies’.
