Accessibility:

There is limited car parking in the centre of the village (Sat nav S62 7TL), with further car parks on Churchfield Lane (Sat nav S62 7TX), and Hague Lane (Sat nav S62 7TF). Although the estate is generally wheelchair accessible there are numerous hazards such as uneven ground, unsafe structures, open water, slippery surfaces, cattle grids and stiles. Therefore visitors are advised to be cautious at all times. Wentworth Woodhouse is not fully wheelchair accessible at present but it is something they will be working on in the future. There are public toilets including wheelchair accessible facilities in Wentworth Woodhouse.


Brief Description:

The Fitzwilliam Wentworth Estate is a diverse estate in Wentworth Village set in 15000 acres. It is steeped in history and has beautiful landscapes and lots of wildlife. The Wentworth Woodhouse was once home to the Rockingham and Fitzwilliam families but was acquired by the Wentworth Woodhouse Preservation Trust in 2017. It is now open for guided tours which can be prebooked by calling 01226 351161. At the centre of the estate is a deer park, serpentine lakes and monuments which are open to the public. There are let properties providing homes for over 600 residents and businesses including coarse fishing and a grouse moor. The Trans Pennine Trail passes through the deer park.

From Barnsley via M1 (9.6 miles). Take Eldon Street and Market Hill to Shambles Street. At Townend Roundabout take the 4th exit onto Dodworth Road/A628. At Dodworth Roundabout, take the 1st exit onto the M1 slip road to London/Sheffield. At junction 36 take the A61 exit to Sheffield (North). At the roundabout take the 1st exit onto A61. At the roundabout take the 2nd eixt onto Dearne Valley Parkway/A6195. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Sheffield Road/A6135. Turn left onto Harley Road/B6090. Turn left onto Clayfield Lane and your destination will be on the right.


From Rotherham via Cortworth Lane (4.8 miles). Head north on Greasbrough Street/A6123 towards Thames Street. At the roundabout continue straight onto Car Hill/B6089. Continue onto Potter Hill/B6089. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit onto Main Street/B6089. Turn left onto CortLane/B6091. Continue onto B6090. Turn right onto Clayfield Lane and your destination will be on the left.
