Accessibility:

Wheelchair access inside the house is restricted. Tours include staircases and there are currently no lifts inside the house. There are disability toilets available and steps are being taken to improve access for all.


Brief Description:

Wentworth House was built between 1725 and 1750. It is one of the largest houses in Europe and is built with two totally different architectural styles. The west front of the house is built in baroque style and the east front is built in the later palladian style. The house was sold in 2017 and is now under a major project to undergo repairs. Parts of the house will remain open while restoration takes place.

Tours start at 11am, which need to be pre-booked on its website.


Admission:

Tour prices per person vary, and currently National Trust members get a 50% discount. Tours at Wentworth take place on different dates. Please see website for further information and booking.


Directions:

Situated 9.8 miles North/East of Sheffield. Head North on Corporation Street, use left hand lane to turn right onto Gibraltar Street/A61. At roundabout take 3rd exit onto Derek Dooley Way/A61. Take slight left onto Savile Street/A6109. Continue on A6109 and at roundabout take 2nd exit to continue on A6109. Continue following A6109 until reaching Meadow Hall roundabout. Take 4th exit onto Meadow Bank Road/A6109. At next roundabout take 2nd exit onto Fenton Road and continue for 1.6 miles. Turn left onto Coach Road. This will lead you to Wentworth Wood house, which will be on your left hand side. OS SK396976. 




Transport:

There is a tea room at the house, serving hot and cold drinks and a selection of light snacks. The garden centre, which is an independent enterprise, has a coffee shop. Further amenities can be found at the Rockingham Arms pub, situated on Main Street.
