Accessibility:

There is car parking available in the field opposite the entrance. There are no footpaths leading to the tower, so the ground may be uneven on the approach. There is no wheelchair access in the tower, and as it has 150 steps to the top it is unsuitable for people with mobility or health issues. There are no public toilets available.

Brief Description:

The Hoober Stand was built in 1747 and designed by Henry Flitcroft. It is a pyramid shaped structure and stands 30 metres high. In 1745 The Earl of Malton, Thomas Watson Wentworth, fought on the side of King George II to defeat the Jacobite rebellion. In recognition of this the King made him the 1st Marquis of Rockingham. The new Marquis then had the tower built to show his gratitude. It is now a Grade II Listed Building. If you are able to climb the 150 steps to the observation area at the top you will have amazing views of the local landscape including Wentworth Woodhouse. Outside the stand are inscribed stones which have a lot of history on them if you are unable to climb the steps.
