Details
Accessibility:
The lighthouse itself is not open to the general public; however, it can be viewed from the various surrounding coastal paths. The coastal paths are well maintained tarmac pathways. There are visitor viewing points along the pathway. The pathways can be accessed from Fort Anne Road or South Quay. Dogs are welcome on leads.
The Isle Of Man Steam Packet ferry boats which run to and from the sea ferry terminal/visitor centre at Douglas pass by the lighthouse, and this is how this photograph was taken with a zoom lens.
Douglas Head Lighthouse sits in the courtyard of the now privately owned lighthouse keeper's cottage. It was originally built in 1831 and stands 65ft tall. The nautical range is up to 15 miles.
