Accessibility:

There is ample on-road parking along Fort Anne Road (none that are disability specific) and there is an even, although sloping, path to the camera obscura. Access to the interior of the site is limited for disabled visitors due to a narrow doorway and the low lighting levels needed for the images to be viewed. There are no toilets at the site, but the following website details disability-friendly toilets in Douglas: http://www.disabledgo.com/places-to-go/venue-search-results?campusid=659f5a3e-6b6d-4f26-a631-cd14c6b30031&subdivisionids=9be0349f-8c68-8091-ab6b-a922aa093a95&categoryids=9f72c60d-a94a-0923-7724-aa00b39dd874&searchterm=isle+of+man+government&displaylocation=isle+of+man+government&displayterm=accessible+public+toilets.

Brief Description:

The Isle of Man’s camera obscura, which was built in 1892, has a series of mirrors and lenses that project a 360 degree image of the surrounding area onto a circular table creating eleven moving colour pictures of the view. It was built by the Victorians as a tourist attraction.
