Accessibility:

The National Glass Centre is a fully accessible building in all areas. They have 8 parking spaces for Blue Badge holders and a further 80 other parking spaces, all of which are free. There is also a drop off point at the entrance. Disability toilet facilities are available and there is a lift to the lower levels of the building. There are is an adult changing place facility on site.

Manual wheelchairs are available to hire for free, upon request. They are on a first come first served basis.  You can download the centre’s full access statement on their website, http://www.nationalglasscentre.com/visit/planyourvisit/access/.

Brief Description:

The National Glass Centre hosts exhibitions, free glass blowing demonstrations, glass making experiences, educational visits, artist talks and demonstrations, and facilities for formal study in partnership with the University of Sunderland.

Directions:

The National Glass Centre is located on the banks of the River Wear at Monkwearmouth in Sunderland. Off of the A1018.

Transport:

Regular Metros and Trains operate between Sunderland and Newcastle. There is a direct rail link to Sunderland from Middlesbrough every hour. National Glass Centre is a 15 minute walk from St Peter’s Metro Station. Journey time from Newcastle to St Peter's Station is 25 minutes.

The E1 takes you from Sunderland City Centre to Roker Avenue which is only a few hundred metres distance from the main entrance. The 700 Sunderland Connect bus is also available to take from park Lane Campus and City Campus.

Amenities:

The Glass Yard is open onsite serving traditional, regional food. It is open daily from 10am to 5pm. Other refreshments are available at the shops, cafes and restaurants in Sunderland city centre nearby.
