Accessibility:

There is limited disability access at the tower. There are 55 steps to climb up to the tower, with uneven surfaces and hazardous walkways. Some areas have hand rails and seating areas are located around the site. Assistance dogs are welcome. There are no accessible toilets. A car park is situated at the bottom of the tower with spaces available for blue badge holders. 


Brief Description:

Cliffords Tower is the largest remaining part of York Castle. The original tower burnt down in 1190 and was rebuilt in the 13th century. A new tower was built under the reign of King Henry III in the middle of the 13th century on top of the mound. York Castle Museum lies immediately south of it.
