Accessibility:

Access to Calf of Man is available by short boat trips (involving climbing steps) departing from both Port Erin and Port St Mary on the South West coast of the island. During bad weather conditions, trips to and from the island are suspended. Guide dogs are allowed; however, authorities must be informed prior to the trip. Depending on weather conditions, there are some areas of the island that have limited access.

Brief Description:

The Calf of Man is an official Nature Reserve and Bird Observatory located half a mile from the Isle of Man mainland. Accommodation is available for up to 8 people between April and September. The property is the only dwelling on the island and is shared with the island's wardens. Both day trips and overnight bookings are available. 

On the Isle of Man mainland, a distant view of the Calf of Man island can be seen on the A31 road just west of Cregneash, and a closer viewpoint (but from which boats do NOT sail), directly opposite the Calf of Man island, is at The Sound Visitor Centre and Café, Sound Road, The Sound, IM9 5PZ, Phone 01624 38123, https://www.visitisleofman.com/things-to-do/the-sound-p1292101 and http://www.manxnationalheritage.im/explore-the-island/places-to-visit/cafes-restaurants/ which gives its opening times. It is located at OS SC 173667 with a car park, at the end of the A31 main road 3 miles south-west of Port St Mary.

Directions:

Located off the south-westernmost tip of the Isle of Man mainland, and opposite the Sound Visitor Centre and its car park (from which boats do NOT sail) at the end of the A31, which provides the best viewpoint from the Isle of Man mainland.

Boat trips are available from both Port Erin and Port St Mary, both of which can be reached on from Douglas, travelling South along the A5 which leads directly to Port Erin, and Port St Mary is reached just over a mile before Port Erin by turning south on the A31.

There are a number of bus routes available from Douglas to both Port St Mary and Port Erin. The island must only be accessed via the official boat trips.
