Accessibility:

The main road through Tolpuddle is paved on both sides for most of the road although in places it does become very narrow and at times only has path along one side. The roads coming off of Main Road are sometimes at a slight gradient.

There are some designated parking lay-bys along the road however most parking is on the main road. Those wishing to visit The Martyrs Inn for drinks or food there is parking available.


Brief Description:

Tolpuddle is a small village in Dorset by the river Puddle. Famous for it's story of the Tolpuddle Martyr's. It has the Tolpuddle Methodist Church, the Martyr's Museum, the Parish Church of St John and the ancient tree in the village centre thought to be where the Martyr's first met. Their story is key to the formation of modern trade unionism.

Situated 3.2 miles from Bere Regis. Take A35 W from Bere Regis. Then follow signs toward Warmwell/Crossways/Tolpuddle and turn right onto Dorchester Road. This will lead you into Tolpuddle Main Road . OS SY 794944

Tolpuddle is a small village and has limited amenities. The Martyrs Inn is situated along Main Road. For further amenities head W from Tolpuddle Main Road leading onto Dorchester Road, then onto Athelhampton Road into Puddletown Highstreet. There you will find a Londis and The Knight House b&b.
