Accessibility:

There is one hour's free parking in the Market Place or paid parking at the rear of the Howden Centre. Wheelchair access into the library is via a ramp. Public toilets including wheelchair accessible toilets are available in Shire Hall. There is an adjustable height desk for wheelchair users, and accessibility software including: Microsoft magnifier, narrator and on-screen keyboard. Large print and audio books are available on loan.


Brief Description:

Howden Library is situated within Shire Hall which is in the heart of Howden. It has 4 computers for use by the public, free internet and email access, access to scanners, printing, photocopying and books for borrowing. It also offers free wi-fi and participates in the Safe Places scheme which helps vulnerable people if they feel scared or at risk while they are out and about in the community and need support right away.

From Hull via A63 and M62 (26.3m). Take Queen’s Dock Avenue, Lowgate and High Street to Castle Street/A63. Follow A62 and M62 to Hailgate in Howden for 25.2 miles. Continue on Hailgate. Drive to Market Place.


From Scunthorpe via M180 (30m). Follow Cliff Gardens and Doncaster Road to M181. Take M180, M18 and M62 to A614 in East Riding of Yorkshire for 26.9 miles. Take exit 37 from M62. Follow A614 and Hailgate to Market Place in Howden.
