Brief Description:

The Old County Hall was a Grade II listed courthouse and jail built in 1783 on the convergence of Cuckoo Lane, Pepper Lane and Bayley Lane opposite the west end of what was then St Michael’s Church. It was the site of Britain’s last public hanging. After lying empty for several decades, The County Hall was converted into a public house in 2012, retaining many original features, and is now called The Slug and Lettuce.

Directions:

Travelling by car around Coventry city centre can be complicated so walking or public transport is often the easiest option.

To reach the Blue Badge parking spaces outside the building on Cuckoo Lane leave the ring road (A4053) at Junction 5 and head into the city centre on New Union Street. At the mini roundabout take the second exit onto the B4544 and head north towards the council buildings. Follow the road round to the right and take a left turn onto Bayley Lane just before the road narrows (you can see the Herbert Museum building on the opposite corner). Follow the cobbled road around to the left keeping the Old Cathedral ruins to your right.  When you get to the crossroads, the Old County Hall (Slug and Lettuce) will be opposite you to the right with the parking spaces marked on the road outside it.
