Accessibility:

The cathedral ruins are largely on one level and accessible from the south and west end (next to the tower) from both Bayley Lane and Cuckoo Lane. The site is laid to smooth slabs but the roads surrounding it are cobbled. There are a couple of chapels that have steps leading down to them and narrow entrances. The tower is only accessible via a spiral stone staircase of 180 steps.
The closest car park is in Cox Street and is free for Blue Badge holders. There are also two designated disability parking bays on Bayley Lane and a drop-off point on Priory Street in front of the new Cathedral.

There are disability toilets within the New Cathedral building (a charge applies to enter the building)

Brief Description:

Of the three cathedrals in Coventry the ruins may be the most famous, having been largely destroyed in the blitz of November 1940 and subsequently retained as a symbol of reconciliation and remembrance.

The cathedral was originally built in the 14th century in the Gothic style as a parish church, most likely within the site of Coventry Castle, of which little remains. It became a cathedral on the formation of the Coventry Diocese in 1918, 400 years after the Dissolution saw the destruction of the original cathedral of St Mary's.

The tower, spire and outer walls are now Grade I listed.

Events, plays and services are held in the ruins throughout the year.
