Accessibility:

The museum is accessible to all, with wheelchair access through the main entrance. The ground floor and most of the 1st floor are accessible. There is a lift inside the museum, please note some thresholds inside the building are too narrow for larger electric wheelchairs. There are accessible toilets, baby changing facilities, guide dogs are welcome, and hearing tours can be downloaded in advance. There is a car park situated close to the museum with two designated spaces.


Brief Description:

Wilberforce House Museum is the birth place of Hull MP, William Wilberforce. Famous for his campaign to abolish slavery, the museum tells his story with items such as his journal and plantation records on display. You can explore the history of slavery and the legacy it holds today.

Directions:

Situated 5.5 miles NE of Hessle. Head NE on Hull Road, continuing through 4 roundabout's. At 5th roundabout/Hessle Road, take 3rd exit onto Priory Way. Turn left to merge onto Clive Sullivan Way/A63, towards city centre. Continue on Clive Sullivan Way/A63 for 3.7 miles. Exit A63 onto Market Place and turn first right onto Liberty Lane. At the end of the road turn left onto High Street. The museum will be on your right hand side. OS TA102288 .

Bus services operate in and around the area, with stops located on Liberty Lane, Lowgate Road and Alfred Gelder Street. Closest stop to the museum is Alfred Gelder street. Accessible by car.
