Call 01482 616 657 during opening hours or email museums@hcandl.co.uk to find out more.
Lighting
Some areas of the museum can be quite dark. Upstairs some of the rooms have dark wood walls and the middle passageway of the slavery galleries is quite dark.
Roads and paths
The entrance to Wilberforce House Museum is level access. High Street is a cobbled street with a paving stone pavement. It has dropped kerbs at the Museums Quarter entrances.
Toilets
There is a set of toilets (including an accessible toilet) through the main entrance that opens onto the gardens of the house. The toilets are outside, and the pathway to them is made of older paving stones.
The nearest Changing Places toilet is on the ground floor of the Guildhall. Please ask at the reception for directions.

Wheelchairs
The museum is largely accessible for wheelchair users, with step-free access at the front of the building and a lift between floors. However, three galleries on the first floor are not accessible via the lift. In addition, a number of thresholds upstairs are too narrow for larger electric wheelchairs. This is due to the historic nature of the house. We apologise for the inconvenience.
We also have a manual wheelchair available to borrow.
Need a wheelchair accessible taxi? Call Wheelchair Taxi Transport Hull on 01482 473 235.

Brief Description
https://www.hullmuseums.co.uk/wilberforce-house-museum
2025:
"Step inside Hull’s oldest museum and discover hidden stories from the struggle against slavery
Wilberforce House was the birthplace of William Wilberforce, Hull’s famous anti-slavery campaigner. Now a historic museum, our galleries expose the realities of the transatlantic slave trade and its legacies.
Discover journals and artefacts that once belonged to William Wilberforce. Explore important items linked to slavery and abolition. And get a fascinating glimpse into the rich tapestry of West African culture.
Due to their subject matter, some of the galleries upstairs contain images and content that may be particularly distressing for some people or inappropriate for younger audiences. This is primarily on the first floor galleries within the main house."
