Brief Description:

St Mary’s Church in Welwick as a Grade I Listed Norman Church which is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Parts of the chancel are 12th Century and other parts were built in the 14th Century. It is an ancient gothic structure which has a 14th Century tomb. There is a Victorian stained glass window and also a small glass cabinet which displays exhibit fragments of quill pens which were found during restorations. It has connections with the Gunpowder Plot with John and Christopher Wright from Welwick going to school with Guy Fawkes and assisting him in the Plot. There is a sculpture erected in Welwick depicting the Gunpowder Plotters. Please note Google Maps has this church listed as St Mark's.
