Brief Description:
St Germain’s was built in the 12th Century and restored in 1889. It is situated in a field surrounded by trees and farmland. It is a church without a tower. The main body of the church is still lit by candles although the stalls have lights. It has three stained glass windows and 18th Century memorials to the Hildyard family. Robert Hildyard was a major general in the army of King Charles I during the English Civil War, and was raised to baronetcy by Charles II following the restoration of the monarchy. The baronetcy was succeeded by several generations until it became extinct in 1814. The church contains a small Clementi positive organ which was recently restored.
