Accessibility:

There is no on-site car park, the closest car park is County Way approximately 200 metres away. There is designated on-street blue badge parking available off Hanson Street. There is level access into the building and level access to all services. The whole building including the restaurant bar is wheelchair accessible. Motorised scooters are permitted in public areas. There is a lift available which serves all floors. In the auditorium there is designated seating in the front row for wheelchair users. A companion may sit next to you. Wheelchair users and people who are visually impaired are usually entitled to a free ticket for their carer/ companion. There are public toilets. There are wheelchair accessible toilets on each floor of the venue. A hearing loop system is in place. Assistance dogs are welcome.

Brief Description:

The Civic Theatre was originally built as a Public Hall in 1877, and became a theatre in 1962. It closed in 1998 due to maintenance problems and financial restraints. After renovation the theatre reopened to the public in 2009. It now includes a 384 seat performance area, a design-led gallery, office space, business units and event facilities. The theatre hosts various music, theatre, dance and comedy performances.

Opening Hours:

Open at various times dependent on performance times. Box Office Opening Times: Monday – Friday: 8.30am-5.00pm, Saturday: 9.00am – 4.30pm

The Box Office will remain open prior to all performances and up to 30 minutes after it starts. 

Gallery Opening Times: From 5 February 2022 the Gallery will be open Tues-Sat, 10am-4pm.

The Civic entrance is located on Hanson Street in Barnsley town centre, a five minute walk from the Transport Interchange and close to The Seam Commuter car park (S70 2JW).
